“When we pool our strength and share the work and responsibility, we can welcome many people, even those in deep distress, and perhaps help them find self-confidence and inner healing.”

Activities

Our work is structured around the evidence-based model of 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

We know that by engaging with this model, our participants have reported that they feel more connected and less isolated, have more confidence, they have something to look forward to, and have a sense of purpose in their week.

We have identified themes for our activities that chime with the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Our themes are: Wellbeing Skills, Creativity, Social Connections, Outdoor Activities and Giving.

1. Connect

Good relationships are important for mental wellbeing. They can help build a sense of belonging and self-worth, give us an opportunity to share positive experiences and provide emotional support and allow people to support others.

Our participants can meet others and make friends through shared interest groups and social activities.

2. Be Active.

Being active is not only great for physical health and fitness, but it can also improve mental wellbeing by raising self-esteem, helping us to set goals or challenges and achieve them, and it improves mood.

We have a range of activities and projects to get people out and about, from gentle walk and talk sessions to take in the scenery and feel more refreshed, to more adventurous groups exploring Dundee and beyond.

3. Learn

Research shows that learning new skills can improve mental wellbeing by boosting self-confidence.

Learning helps build a sense of purpose and is a great way to connect with others.

Our learning activities and skills workshops are suitable for all abilities and levels of experience.

Our participants can access opportunities to try something new, or learn about how to manage their mental health and wellbeing.

4. Take Notice

By focusing on the present moment, we can alleviate negative thinking patterns and maintain a level of calmness, which improves our mental health and wellbeing.

We help people learn about mindfulness and relaxation, or get involved in activities where they can explore Dundee and the surrounding area.

5. Give

Giving means doing something nice for a friend or a stranger, or taking part in improving our environment or community.

Our Volunteer Plus programme gives participants access to supported volunteering so they can gain skills and experience, and be confident as active members of the community.
